We’lI not be drawn into wider war with Iran – UK tells Trump

The United Kingdom has said it will not be drawn into a wider conflict with Iran despite pressure from the United States. Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the position clear after Donald Trump urged allies to help secure shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz. The request comes as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise.

Speaking at Downing Street, Starmer said the UK is carefully reviewing options but will focus on protecting its national interests. He explained that discussions are ongoing with the US and other international partners about ways to keep global trade routes open without expanding the conflict.

The prime minister admitted that the situation is complex and warned that prolonged instability in the region could keep global oil prices high. He added that the UK wants to help restore stability while avoiding actions that could escalate the crisis further.

Starmer also stressed the importance of diplomacy, saying a negotiated solution remains the best path forward. According to him, the UK will continue working with allies to reduce tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading across the region.
