The Benue State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued five passengers along the Ugbokpo–Agatu road in Apa Local Government Area. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. during a routine patrol by officers carrying out visibility policing in the area.
Security sources said the patrol team encountered suspected kidnappers in Ojantelle community who had earlier hijacked a Sharon vehicle travelling from Ugbokpo to Agatu. The vehicle was driven by Danladi John and had four passengers on board.
Police officers immediately confronted the armed suspects, leading to a gun battle. The attackers were forced to abandon the victims and fled into nearby bushes while the police secured the scene.
All five occupants of the vehicle were rescued without injuries and later continued their journey. Authorities have since launched a search operation to track down the fleeing suspects and strengthen security along the road.
