Iranian missile strikes helipad in US embassy compound in Iraq

A missile attack struck the compound of the United States Embassy Baghdad in Baghdad, causing smoke to rise from the area and raising fresh security concerns. The embassy is located inside the heavily guarded Green Zone Baghdad, where many government buildings and foreign missions are situated.

Security officials said the missile landed on a helipad inside the embassy grounds. The strike reportedly damaged part of the compound’s air defence system, although full details about the extent of the damage have not yet been released. There was also no immediate confirmation about casualties from U.S. authorities.

Reports suggest the attack may be linked to armed groups in Iraq that are aligned with Iran. Some of these groups have previously threatened to target American facilities in the region as tensions continue to grow between the United States and Iran.

The attack comes as Iraq faces increasing pressure from the wider regional conflict. The embassy recently warned U.S. citizens to avoid traveling to Iraq due to security threats, as the country remains a key point in the long-standing rivalry between Washington and Tehran.
