Former Minister of Lands and Urban Development, Nduese Essien, has advised voters to prioritize experienced leaders when electing representatives to the National Assembly of Nigeria. He said the Senate requires lawmakers with strong knowledge of governance and legislative work.
Essien made the remarks while receiving members of the Mkpat Enin Elders and Stakeholders Forum in Eket. The group visited to show support for the re-election of Ekong Sampson ahead of the 2027 political season.
According to Essien, the Senate has become a powerful institution where senior lawmakers influence major national decisions. He warned that sending inexperienced politicians to the chamber could weaken representation for any constituency.
The elder statesman urged people of the district to support continuity and competent leadership. He added that experienced lawmakers bring more development and influence to their constituencies than first-time politicians.
