UK defence minister suggests Putin’s ‘hidden hand’ behind Iran war tactics against US

The United Kingdom’s defence minister has suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be influencing how Iran conducts its military tactics against the United States and its allies in the ongoing conflict. British officials believe Iran is using drone methods similar to those seen in Eastern Europe, possibly with guidance from Russia.

Defence Secretary John Healey told reporters that Iranian drone operators are flying their unmanned aircraft at lower altitudes, a tactic learned during Russia’s war in Ukraine. He said this approach has made the drones more effective against Western forces.

British military sources also noted that drones linked to Iran recently struck a base in Iraq where allied personnel are stationed, reinforcing concerns about expanding Iranian tactical capability. UK officials are analysing seized drones and believe the new methods reflect lessons from Russian technology.

While the UK has not indicated direct Russian involvement in combat, Healey’s comments point to broader strategic cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. This has raised alarm among Western governments as the conflict continues to disrupt security and energy markets globally.
