Legal expert Kenneth Okonkwo has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is now Nigeria’s top opposition party, predicting that more politicians will defect to the party. He highlighted that the ADC’s growth is not based on government power or resources but on a coalition of opposition leaders aiming to challenge the ruling APC.
Okonkwo noted that despite lacking control of federal power, the ADC has become the most viable platform for opposition, attracting leaders from parties such as the PDP and Labour Party to unite under its banner.
He explained that this coalition formed to counter the APC, which he described as a threat to democracy and public welfare, giving the ADC a stronger political presence.
The lawyer further claimed that more defections are expected as Nigeria’s political landscape evolves ahead of future elections, emphasizing that the ADC is positioned to play a central role in shaping the country’s opposition.
