An old campaign video of Bola Ahmed Tinubu promising steady electricity has resurfaced online as many Nigerians face persistent power outages. The clip, recorded during the 2022 presidential campaign, shows the president assuring citizens that his administration would ensure constant electricity supply if elected.
In the video, Tinubu told supporters that Nigerians should refuse to vote for him again if he failed to fulfil the promise. He also pledged to end estimated electricity billing and provide reliable power across the country.
The video has been widely shared on social media platforms like Facebook and X, where users are debating the government’s progress on electricity reforms. The renewed attention comes at a time when several parts of the country are experiencing unstable power supply.
According to the Nigerian Independent System Operator, electricity generation on the national grid recently dropped to about 3,940 megawatts after multiple generating units shut down. The situation has worsened economic pressure on businesses already struggling with rising fuel costs.
