The FBI has issued an urgent alert to California law enforcement over a possible drone attack linked to Iran. Intelligence suggests unmanned aerial vehicles could be launched from an offshore vessel targeting unspecified locations in the state following U.S. strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Iranian-made Shahed‑136 “kamikaze drones” are believed to be part of the alleged plan. Authorities have not identified specific targets or timing but noted California hosts the largest population of Iranian-Americans, estimated at 500,000.
Governor Gavin Newsom described the threat as “critical” and confirmed state officials are monitoring the situation in coordination with federal agencies. President Trump, however, downplayed concerns, stating he was not worried about potential attacks on U.S. soil.
The alert comes amid escalating Middle East tensions, including attacks near the Strait of Hormuz on several vessels. CENTCOM warned civilians to avoid Iranian ports where military operations are underway due to potential targeting under international law.
