Afrobeats mainly for Lagos, Yorubas – Omah Lay

Nigerian singer Omah Lay has said Afrobeats is mainly for Lagos and Yorubas, noting that artists from other regions often struggle to break into the Lagos music scene. Speaking at his album listening party, he shared his personal experience coming from Port Harcourt.

Omah Lay explained that only a few artists from Port Harcourt, like Burna Boy and himself, have made it in Lagos, highlighting the challenges of entering the industry outside the Yoruba heartland.

He added that he no longer seeks validation from the Lagos or global music industry, choosing instead to focus on the love and support of his family and fans.

The singer emphasized that his priority now is enjoying the connection with those who genuinely appreciate his music, rather than chasing acceptance in mainstream Lagos or worldwide markets.
