War: Federal govt begins evacuation of Nigerians from Iran

The Federal Government of Nigeria has begun evacuating Nigerians who wish to leave Iran due to rising tensions in the region. The evacuees are being escorted by embassy officials to the Armenian border to ensure their safe passage out of the country.

The update was shared by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, head of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission. She said officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the evacuation and providing support for citizens willing to depart.

The move follows escalating conflict after military strikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February. The attacks triggered retaliatory missile and drone strikes, raising concerns about a wider regional war.

Dabiri-Erewa, however, assured that no Nigerian has been harmed in the conflict so far. She added that embassy officials remain stationed at the border to assist citizens who choose to leave the country.
