Singer Doja Cat slams actor Timotthee Chalamet over opera/ballet remarks

Doja Cat has criticised comments made by Timothée Chalamet regarding opera and ballet. The singer responded in a TikTok video, saying the classical art forms have existed for centuries and still attract strong audiences.

In the video, Doja Cat explained that opera is more than 400 years old while ballet dates back around 500 years. She questioned the claim that people no longer care about these performances, arguing that opera houses and theatres still draw large crowds.

According to her, audiences remain silent during performances not because they are uninterested but because they respect the art and performers. She also highlighted the dedication of ballet dancers, noting the physical pain and discipline required to perform.

Chalamet had earlier sparked debate during a town hall event where he suggested that opera and ballet are no longer widely followed. His remarks led to reactions from several cultural institutions, including Metropolitan Opera, which defended the relevance of classical arts.
