“I was away at AFCON and told I’d get two weeks extra, then they signed Nicolas Pépé” — Alex Iwobi explains how Arsenal let him go

Nigerian star Alex Iwobi revealed that his departure from Arsenal F.C. happened while he was on holiday after the Africa Cup of Nations. He said he was told to take two extra weeks off by then-manager Unai Emery, but the club went ahead and signed winger Nicolas Pépé, making him question his future.

While in Dubai, Iwobi’s agent informed him that Everton F.C. wanted to sign him, and Arsenal quickly sent his medical documents, essentially approving the move before he could decide.

Iwobi admitted the move was challenging at first, staying alone in a hotel in Liverpool, adjusting to a new city, and coping with loneliness away from family and friends.

After consulting his family, he agreed to the transfer, eventually settling in and continuing his Premier League career, stepping out of his comfort zone and adapting to a new environment.
