British MP Joani Reid has said she has never visited China or raised China-related issues in Parliament after her husband, David Taylor, was arrested on suspicion of spying for the country. Taylor is one of three men detained by the Metropolitan Police under the National Security Act 2023.
Reid stressed she had no reason to suspect her husband of wrongdoing and that neither she nor her children are part of the investigation. She also emphasized that her political work and beliefs are not connected to China or its government.
UK Security Minister Dan Jarvis confirmed that officials in London and Beijing were formally challenged regarding the arrests. He warned that any proven attempts by China to interfere with UK affairs would face severe consequences.
Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said the arrests are part of a broader investigation. Authorities indicated there is no immediate public threat, and the probe into potential espionage activities continues.
