Towering influence in Nigeria, Africa – Tinubu celebrates Obasanjo at 89

President Bola Tinubu described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a “towering influence” on Nigeria, Africa, and the world while celebrating his 89th birthday. Tinubu praised Obasanjo’s contributions to national unity, democracy, and African development.

Highlighting his leadership record, Tinubu noted Obasanjo served as military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, peacefully handed over power, and later became the first civilian president of the Fourth Republic from 1999 to 2007.

The president also recognized Obasanjo’s sacrifices, including leading troops during the war, enduring imprisonment for speaking out, and championing political and economic progress in Africa.

Tinubu lauded Obasanjo’s ongoing contributions through writings and public service, praying for his good health, wisdom, and continued support for Nigeria and global development.
