Minister urges northern states, FCT to develop ACReSAL sustainability plans ahead of 2028

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has urged the 19 northern states and the FCT to develop sustainability plans for the ACReSAL project before its 2028 conclusion. He stressed local ownership and institutionalized frameworks to maintain agricultural gains and community benefits.

At the event in Jalingo, Taraba, the minister flagged off climate-smart initiatives, clean energy programs, and distributed agricultural equipment, including power tillers, tractors, solar pumps, and clean cookstoves to local councils. He also commissioned renovated buildings and handed over vehicles to state agencies.

Lawal highlighted that ACReSAL addresses deforestation, desertification, and challenges in waste and water management. He praised Taraba as a top-performing state and announced a Federal Government rosewood restoration plan to be piloted in Taraba, Cross River, and Benue.

Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas revealed the creation of the Taraba Agro-Climatic and Watershed Management Agency and a Rosewood restoration task force to sustain project benefits. The ACReSAL State Coordinator, Dr. Yakubu Giwa, acknowledged extensive achievements across all 16 local governments.
