Tragedy struck Ibelebiri community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State after a fuel tanker crashed into a tricycle, killing five people. The victims included the rider and four schoolchildren who were said to be returning home.
Residents said the accident happened along the Yenegwe–Okarki–Otuasega road when the tanker reportedly lost control due to brake failure. The vehicle veered off the road and rammed into the parked tricycle, leaving those inside with no chance of survival.
Eyewitnesses explained that the children were pupils of a school in Otuasega and were usually transported by the rider, who was a relative. The tanker driver allegedly fled the scene, while the conductor was arrested and handed over to the police.
The Federal Road Safety Corps praised local youths for remaining calm and preventing further damage. Police authorities confirmed that an investigation has begun to determine the exact cause of the crash and ensure justice is served.
