Hearing in the certificate forgery suit filed by former minister Uche Nnaji against the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and others was stalled at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The case was adjourned to April 20 to allow lawyers regularise their processes.
Counsel to UNN and other defendants requested the adjournment, which was not opposed by Nnaji’s lawyer or the representative of the National Universities Commission (NUC). The court also ordered that a hearing notice be served on the Minister of Education, who was absent.
Nnaji had approached the court over allegations of certificate forgery, seeking orders to stop UNN from tampering with his academic records. He also asked the court to compel the university to release his transcript and direct supervisory authorities to intervene.
However, the university and other defendants challenged the court’s jurisdiction, arguing the suit was filed out of time and improperly initiated. They urged the court to strike out the case, saying it lacked merit and did not follow proper legal procedure.
