A Hunter College professor in New York, Allyson Friedman, has been placed on leave after making racist comments about black students during a virtual meeting. The remarks, captured on a hot mic, sparked outrage among parents, students, and public officials.
College President Nancy Cantor confirmed the leave and said an investigation is ongoing under the university’s conduct and nondiscrimination policies. Counseling services have been made available to the school community affected by the incident.
Friedman later claimed her comments were part of explaining systemic racism to her own child, but critics condemned the remarks as “abhorrent” and “despicable,” especially during Black History Month. Public officials, including Manhattan and Queens Borough Presidents, demanded swift action.
