Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has said the wide acceptance of Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe as Deputy Governor shows that he prayerfully made the right decision. He made this known shortly after Akpe’s swearing-in ceremony.

Diri explained that he carefully searched for a replacement following the death of former Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in December 2025. He said his choice was based on continuity, competence, good character and the fear of God.

According to the governor, Akpe’s academic record and administrative experience made him suitable for the role. He thanked the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and the Chief Judge for their swift action in confirming and inaugurating the new deputy governor.

Diri also congratulated the newly appointed commissioner and permanent secretaries, urging citizens to continue supporting his administration. He promised that his government would focus on legacy projects and impactful programmes across the state.
