Don’t congratulate me, it’s huge burden’ – Tunji Disu list what he’ll do as IGP

Newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has said this is not the time for celebration but for serious work. Speaking after his decoration by President Bola Tinubu as the 23rd Indigenous IGP, Disu described the position as a heavy burden that demands immediate action.

Disu, who replaces Kayode Egbetokun, pledged to modernize the Nigeria Police Force through smart policing, digital tools, and intelligence-led investigations. He stressed that professionalism, accountability, and zero tolerance for misconduct will guide his leadership.

He warned officers that the era of impunity is over, adding that discipline will apply to everyone regardless of rank. According to him, rebuilding public trust and strengthening internal checks will be key priorities.

The new police chief also promised to focus on community policing and officers’ welfare. He urged Nigerians to partner with the police, report crimes, and hold the Force accountable while assuring that integrity, courage, and compassion will define his tenure.
