Former Harvard University president Larry Summers to resign from Harvard over Jeffrey Epstein ties

Former U.S. Treasury Secretary and ex-Harvard president Larry Summers has announced he will retire from his teaching role at Harvard University at the end of the academic year. His decision comes amid renewed scrutiny over past correspondence with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Summers said stepping down was a difficult choice. Although documents released by the U.S. House Oversight Committee showed communication between him and Epstein, there has been no evidence of wrongdoing against Summers.

Harvard had earlier placed him on leave and began reviewing individuals mentioned in government-released Epstein files. The dean of Harvard Kennedy School has now accepted his resignation as co-director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government.

In November, Summers also resigned from the board of OpenAI. He previously expressed regret over his past association and said he would focus on personal reflection and repairing relationships.
