Eight more Adamawa lawmakers defect from PDP

Eight more Adamawa State House of Assembly members have left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Speaker Bathiya Wesley. The defections follow three consecutive days of exits from the party, citing national-level PDP crises.

Lawmakers who resigned alongside the Speaker include Moses Yerima Zah, Kate Raymond Mamuno, Pwamwakeno Mackondo, Adun John Alaba, Bulus Kantom, Musa Mahmud Kallamu, and Japhet Hammanjabu. Their departures highlight growing unrest within the party at the state level.

The resignations were announced during Wednesday’s plenary session, reflecting dissatisfaction over PDP leadership and internal conflicts. Analysts say the trend signals a wider shift in Adamawa politics ahead of upcoming elections.

Speculation continues that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri may also leave PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting a major political realignment in the state.
