Deal with U.S. within reach ‘only if diplomacy is given priority’–Iran’s foreign minister

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, says a deal with the United States is possible if diplomacy is placed above confrontation. His comments come ahead of fresh talks in Geneva, where U.S. envoys are expected to meet Iranian officials. Araqchi described the moment as a “historic opportunity” for a fair and balanced agreement.

Tehran signaled readiness to negotiate in good faith, with Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi affirming Iran’s commitment to serious dialogue. However, tensions remain high, as Washington has strengthened its military presence in the Middle East. Iran has warned it would respond firmly to any attack on its territory.

Reports suggest Iran may consider sending part of its highly enriched uranium abroad and diluting the rest in exchange for sanctions relief and recognition of its right to peaceful nuclear enrichment. Previous negotiations collapsed over U.S. demands that Iran completely halt enrichment activities.

The renewed diplomatic push follows last year’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites involving the United States and Israel. With both sides holding firm positions yet expressing willingness to talk, the upcoming Geneva meeting is seen as a crucial test of whether diplomacy can overcome rising tensions.
