Presidency confirms Egbetokun’s resignation as IGP

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the resignation of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down citing urgent family reasons. The President thanked Egbetokun for his decades of dedicated service to the nation and the Nigeria Police Force.

Following the resignation, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has been appointed Acting IGP with immediate effect. The President expressed confidence in Disu’s leadership and operational experience to manage the force during this critical period.

A formal meeting of the Nigeria Police Council will soon be convened to consider Disu’s substantive appointment, after which his nomination will be sent to the Senate for confirmation in line with the Police Act 2020.

The Presidency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national security, ensuring discipline, transparency, and effectiveness within the Nigeria Police Force under the new leadership.
