The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, undertook an emergency visit to Lagos following the fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport. He arrived around midnight to assess the situation and join the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria management team coordinating emergency response efforts.
Keyamo praised FAAN personnel and emergency responders for their swift action, which helped protect lives and limit the damage. He commended the coordination between FAAN and the Lagos State Fire Service in containing the fire.
The minister directed that FAAN’s fire department and Lagos State Fire Service maintain overnight vigilance to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. He emphasized the importance of continued monitoring and readiness to prevent further incidents.
Looking ahead, Keyamo said he would inspect the airport facilities at dawn to assess the extent of damage and issue further directives, assuring the public that safety and operational integrity remain a priority.
