A devastating fire has destroyed the Fika main market in Yobe State, leaving many traders counting heavy losses. The incident occurred in Fika Local Government Area and reportedly damaged several shops and goods, affecting the livelihoods of numerous families who depend on the market for income.
Witnesses said the blaze caused widespread destruction, coming shortly after authorities discussed support plans for victims of earlier fires in other parts of the state. The timing of the incident has raised fresh concerns about recurring market fires in the region.
The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the development and expressed sympathy to affected traders. The agency assured victims that the government would provide assistance within available resources.
Officials also advised residents to remain vigilant and prioritize safety measures to prevent future disasters. Communities were encouraged to promptly report emergencies to reduce damage and protect lives and property.
