Aiyedatiwa holds parallel stakeholders’ meeting, blames ‘vested interests’ over crisis

Lucky Aiyedatiwa has denied any link to the violence that disrupted a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State. The governor said troublemakers who had no official reason to be at the party secretariat were behind the chaos that broke out in Akure.

During the incident, Ade Adetimehin and other party leaders were reportedly attacked and injured after suspected thugs stormed the venue. Some of the victims, now receiving treatment, alleged that the governor sponsored the attackers, an accusation he strongly rejected.

Aiyedatiwa explained that the original meeting planned for 10 a.m. had not been finalized, as he had asked for it to be shifted to 2 p.m. so he and other top officials could attend. Instead, he said what happened earlier was a gathering of rival supporters rather than an official party event.

The governor insisted he has no hostility toward party processes and blamed the unrest on factional disagreements linked to candidate selection. He added that he had even contacted security authorities to ensure safety at the secretariat before the situation escalated.
