E-transmission: APC going against Nigerians – PDP lawmaker, Adepoju

A member of the House of Representatives, Anthony Adepoju, has criticised the stance of the All Progressives Congress on election result transmission, saying it contradicts what many Nigerians want. He made the remark during a television interview while reacting to lawmakers’ decision to retain manual result transmission ahead of the 2027 elections.

The lawmaker, who belongs to the People’s Democratic Party, said citizens desire a system that builds confidence in democracy and reflects their true choices at the polls. According to him, recent events in the legislature suggested a lack of agreement across party lines.

Tension reportedly rose inside the National Assembly of Nigeria as lawmakers argued over a motion seeking to revisit the Electoral Act amendment. The debate caused a heated session before proceedings shifted direction, highlighting deep divisions on how election results should be transmitted.

Adepoju maintained that Nigeria’s democratic progress since 1999 should not be undermined by decisions that might weaken public trust. He warned that any move that could affect free and fair elections would damage confidence in the country’s democratic system.
