Flutterwave most licensed non-bank entity globally, holds over 50 licenses – CEO Agboola

The Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, has revealed that the company now holds more than 50 licences worldwide, making it one of the most licensed non-bank financial technology firms globally. He made the announcement while celebrating the firm’s 10th anniversary, reflecting on its journey from a startup tackling payment challenges in Africa to a globally recognised fintech platform.

Agboola explained that when the company began operations in 2016, cross-border payments across African countries were slow and inefficient, sometimes requiring money transfers to pass through overseas banking systems before reaching nearby destinations. Flutterwave was created to simplify transactions, empower small businesses, and provide seamless payment solutions for individuals and companies across borders.

Over the years, the fintech company has expanded to more than 35 countries and processed over one billion transactions valued at more than $50 billion. According to Agboola, this growth shows how African innovation can compete internationally when supported by strong infrastructure and partnerships. He noted that the firm’s platform connects commerce, logistics, and payments to make business transactions faster and easier.

The CEO also reaffirmed Flutterwave’s commitment to Nigeria as its home base, while continuing to build global partnerships in markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and parts of Europe. He encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage the company’s tools to scale their businesses worldwide, stressing that Nigerian innovation can stand out globally when given the right opportunities.
