Group demands forensic audit of Rivers State finances since 2015

A civic group has called for a comprehensive forensic audit of public finances in Rivers State, urging authorities to review all government expenditures dating back to 2015. The organisation said such an investigation is necessary to promote transparency, accountability, and public trust in the management of state resources.

According to the group, concerns have grown over the years regarding how funds were allocated and utilized across different administrations. They argued that a detailed financial review would help clarify spending patterns, identify possible irregularities, and reassure citizens that public money has been handled responsibly.

The group also stressed that a forensic audit would not only uncover any potential mismanagement but could serve as a preventive measure for the future. By examining contracts, budget releases, and project funding records, they believe authorities can strengthen financial oversight systems and reduce opportunities for misuse of public funds.

They further appealed to anti-corruption agencies and relevant oversight institutions to take up the request promptly. The organisation maintained that openness in government finances is vital for democratic governance and insisted that such an audit would ultimately benefit residents by reinforcing confidence in leadership and public institutions.
