Osun 2026: APC names former lawmaker, Olatunji as Oyebamiji’s running mate

The All Progressives Congress has officially named Tunde Lekan Olatunji as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the 2026 election in Osun State. The announcement confirms the party’s final ticket as preparations intensify for the upcoming poll.

The decision became public after the Independent National Electoral Commission released and displayed the list of governorship and deputy governorship candidates submitted by political parties. Reports indicate that the commission posted the details across its local government offices to ensure transparency and public awareness.

Olatunji, who hails from Edunabon, previously served as a lawmaker representing Ife North Constituency from 2019 to 2023. During his time in the state assembly, he held the position of Chief Whip, where he played a key role in coordinating legislative activities and maintaining party unity among members. His experience in lawmaking is believed to have influenced his selection.

Party insiders say the choice followed wide consultations with stakeholders across the state. Observers note that selecting a deputy candidate early could strengthen campaign planning and grassroots mobilization as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2026 governorship contest.
