Former Kaduna State Governor and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nasir El-Rufai, has honoured an invitation extended to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of corruption linked to his tenure in office.

El-Rufai arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Monday accompanied by hundreds of supporters.

The anti-graft agency had earlier invited the former governor for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial improprieties during his administration.

The development follows an incident last Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where El-Rufai reportedly resisted an attempt to arrest him.

Speaking in a series of interviews after the airport incident, El-Rufai alleged that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was behind the attempted arrest.

The EFCC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the outcome of Monday’s engagement.
