A member of the Forest Guard in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State has been taken into custody following the alleged shooting death of his 24-year-old son. The tragic incident reportedly happened on February 13, 2026, at about 5:40 p.m. inside the RRR Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp in Monguno. The case has since sparked concern within the local community.
According to reports, the matter was formally reported to the Monguno Police Division by a resident of Gana Ali Ward. The suspect, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim Angoli, was accused of firing at his son, Ajiya Mustapha, with an AK-47 rifle. Security sources indicated that the victim was shot from behind during the incident.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Monguno led officers to the scene shortly after receiving the report. Photographs were taken as part of standard procedures, and the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Monguno. A medical doctor on duty later confirmed that he was dead on arrival. The body was deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of the suspect, and the firearm allegedly used in the incident has been recovered as evidence. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri has begun a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
