Nigeria’s insecurity dates back to 1914, rooted in generational grievances – Jimoh Ibrahim

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has argued that Nigeria’s insecurity did not start recently but dates back to 1914. According to him, many of the country’s present challenges are rooted in historical events that created long-standing grievances among different groups.

He pointed to the 1914 amalgamation, when the Northern and Southern protectorates were merged under British colonial rule, as a key turning point. Ibrahim suggested that the political structure created at that time laid the foundation for tensions that have continued across generations.

The senator explained that unresolved grievances and structural imbalances have contributed to instability over the years. In his view, addressing insecurity requires more than military action; it demands a deeper understanding of the country’s historical and social dynamics.

His comments have added to ongoing national conversations about restructuring, unity, and sustainable peace. Many analysts believe that examining Nigeria’s past may help policymakers design more inclusive solutions for the future.
