FG warns against money bouquet ahead of Valentine’s Day

The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against the use of money bouquets and other forms of currency display ahead of Valentine’s Day celebrations. The caution comes as many people prepare to celebrate February 14 with gifts and public shows of affection. Authorities stressed that the misuse of the national currency is against the law and could attract penalties.

Officials explained that arranging naira notes into bouquets or spraying them at events amounts to abuse of the currency. They reminded the public that the Central Bank of Nigeria Act prohibits actions that damage, deface, or misuse the naira. The warning is part of ongoing efforts to protect the value and dignity of Nigeria’s legal tender.

The government advised citizens to express love and appreciation in creative but lawful ways. While Valentine’s Day is a time for celebration, officials urged Nigerians to avoid practices that may lead to fines or other legal consequences. They encouraged the public to handle the naira responsibly and report cases of currency abuse.

This latest advisory highlights the importance of respecting national symbols and financial regulations. As Valentine’s Day approaches, authorities say enforcement teams will monitor events to ensure compliance. Nigerians are therefore urged to celebrate responsibly and avoid turning currency into decorative items.
