A magistrate court has sentenced a driver to two months in prison for driving against traffic on the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the offender was jailed without the option of paying a fine after being found guilty of the traffic offence.
According to the FRSC, the arrest happened during a joint enforcement operation along the Kara–Opic area of the expressway. The special operation was launched to tackle the growing problem of one-way driving, especially as ongoing bridge repair works have caused heavy traffic in the area. Officials said some motorists have been taking advantage of the congestion to break traffic rules.
The driver, identified as Koko Moses, was reportedly caught driving a commercial Volkswagen bus against the flow of traffic. Authorities later discovered that he did not have a valid driver’s licence, making the situation more serious. He was arrested and taken to court shortly after the incident.
The court ruled that the driver was guilty and ordered him to serve two months in jail without the option of a fine. The FRSC described the judgment as a strong warning to other motorists who ignore traffic laws and endanger the lives of road users.
