A 30-year-old man, identified as Ashahabu Ubale, has died in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State after entering a well to retrieve a burning gas cylinder. The incident occurred on Sunday at Saulawa Quarters, according to the Kano State Fire Service.
The Fire Service explained that the gas released inside the well caused a lack of oxygen, leading to suffocation. Firefighters from the Gwarzo branch were immediately deployed and managed to bring Ubale out of the well, but he was unconscious and later confirmed dead. The body was handed over to the Gwarzo Police Division for further action.
Authorities warned the public to exercise caution around open wells and hazardous areas. They stressed that attempting to retrieve objects like gas cylinders without proper safety equipment can be extremely dangerous and even fatal.
The Kano State Fire Service continues to urge residents to prioritize safety and avoid risky actions in hazardous situations, highlighting the importance of professional intervention during emergencies.
