This Is The Worst Opposition In The History Of This Country – Morris Monye

Former Obidient Movement Director of Mobilisation, Morris Monye, has described Nigeria’s current opposition as the weakest in the country’s history. In a public comment shared after his resignation in November 2025, Monye argued that the opposition has failed to present a strong, united front capable of challenging the ruling party in any meaningful way.

According to Monye, one of the biggest problems is the absence of clear leadership. He noted that in past political eras, especially during the time of former President Goodluck Jonathan, opposition figures such as Bola Tinubu and Muhammadu Buhari were visible, strategic, and aggressive in taking control of the political narrative. In contrast, today’s opposition lacks a recognised leader who can mobilise supporters and seize national attention.

Monye also criticised the opposition’s style of engagement, saying it relies too much on social media posts and polished press statements rather than serious grassroots organisation. He suggested that many Nigerians cannot even identify who currently leads the opposition or where its centre of power lies, making it difficult for citizens to rally behind a common cause.

He concluded by saying that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be benefiting greatly from this situation. With little pressure from a coordinated opposition, Monye observed that the political environment strongly favours the ruling party, making it easier for them to dominate the national conversation without strong resistance.
