Ten years under APC is disaster – Hashim-Olawepo

Former presidential aspirant and PDP chieftain, Gbenga Hashim-Olawepo, has described Nigeria’s economic situation under the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a major disaster. Speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, he said the last ten years of APC-led government have badly affected the country’s economic growth and global standing.

Hashim-Olawepo compared Nigeria’s current economy with previous administrations, noting that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was stronger many years ago than it is today. He explained that when former President Olusegun Obasanjo left office in 2007, Nigeria’s GDP stood at about $268 billion, which is higher than the country’s present GDP.

He further stated that Nigeria reached its economic peak under former President Goodluck Jonathan, when the GDP rose to about $574 billion and the country became Africa’s largest economy. According to him, Nigeria’s position has now dropped significantly, placing the country between fourth and fifth largest economies on the continent.

Describing the situation as tragic, Hashim-Olawepo blamed the APC-led government for the decline. He argued that the economic progress recorded before 2015 has been lost, adding that Nigerians are now facing hardship as a result of poor economic management over the past decade
