The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State has announced that 4,423 eligible voters have been successfully registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The update was given by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Queen Agwu, during a media briefing held in Awka on Wednesday.
According to the REC, the CVR exercise began on January 5 and is expected to run until April 17, 2026. She explained that the newly recorded figure came from the second phase of the registration exercise, which is being carried out across the state. INEC had earlier registered about 2.8 million voters in 2025 ahead of the Anambra governorship election.
Dr Agwu said the registration is being done using a rotational system across all 326 wards in Anambra State. This approach, she noted, is meant to ensure that people at the grassroots level have access to the registration centres and are not left out of the process.
She encouraged all eligible residents who are yet to register to visit their local government INEC offices or the state headquarters to take part in the exercise. The REC also warned against double registration, explaining that the digital system would automatically detect and reject such attempts, advising those with issues to update their details instead.
