Zamfara govt laments Gwargwabe bandit attack, approves military base after

The Zamfara State Government has strongly condemned a deadly bandit attack on Gwargwabe village in the Nahuce District of Bungudu Local Government Area. The attack, which happened on Thursday evening just before Maghrib prayers, claimed the lives of four residents and caused serious destruction in the community.

According to reports, armed bandits invaded the village, setting houses and food storage facilities on fire. Three men and one woman were killed during the assault, while several livestock were also lost. The attack has further worsened the humanitarian situation in the area, especially as food supplies meant for families were destroyed.

In a statement released on Sunday, the state government said the Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, represented Governor Dauda Lawal at the funeral prayers and burial of the victims. During the visit, the deputy governor announced that the government has approved the establishment of a military base in Gwargwabe to boost security and ensure faster response to future threats.

The deputy governor also called on residents to work closely with security agencies by sharing useful and timely information. The District Head of Nahuce, Alhaji Sulaiman Marafa, disclosed that the attack occurred after the community refused to pay levies demanded by the bandits. Other officials present included the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, the chairman of Bungudu LGA, and senior government representatives.
