Wike Threatens To Take Over Stadium If Rivers Govt Denies Them Access

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that he may take over a stadium in Rivers State if the state government refuses to grant access for its use. He made the statement while reacting to reports that certain groups aligned with him were being denied entry to the facility for planned activities.

Wike said the stadium is a public asset built with taxpayers’ money and should not be used as a tool for political exclusion. According to him, no government has the right to stop law-abiding citizens from using public infrastructure for legitimate purposes.

The former Rivers State governor stressed that if access continues to be blocked, the Federal Government could step in to reclaim or take control of the facility. He argued that such action would be justified if the stadium is being politicised or managed in a way that goes against the public interest.

The development adds to the ongoing political tension in Rivers State, with Wike insisting that fairness and rule of law must guide the use of public properties. He called on the state authorities to avoid actions that could deepen political divisions and disrupt peace in the state.
