The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has dismissed reports of a leadership tussle within the union, describing such claims as false and deliberately misleading. The union said there is no crisis in its leadership structure, insisting that its national officers were duly elected through a transparent process.
According to NUPENG, individuals spreading stories of an internal power struggle are not recognised by the union. The leadership explained that some of those making the claims are already facing legal action for attempting to misrepresent themselves as union officials and cause confusion among members.
The union stressed that its activities and administration remain stable, with all organs of NUPENG functioning normally. It urged members and the general public to rely only on official statements from the union and not be swayed by rumours circulated on social media and other platforms.
NUPENG further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of petroleum and gas workers across the country. The union said it remains focused on engaging relevant stakeholders on workers’ rights and industry issues, despite efforts by a few individuals to distract it with false narratives.
