Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has explained why his administration decided to appoint a new head coach for Enyimba Football Club of Aba. The governor said the move was necessary to inject fresh energy into the club and improve results in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). He spoke on Thursday at the Government House in Umuahia during his monthly media interaction with journalists.
Governor Otti revealed that Desutch Gustave Emmanuel was appointed earlier in the week after careful consideration. He noted that Enyimba, a former CAF Champions League winner, needed a new technical direction to return to winning ways. According to him, the government believes the new coach, working with the existing backroom staff, can restore confidence and performance in the team.
Beyond sports, the governor also used the opportunity to highlight achievements in infrastructure development. He announced that Ovom Street in Aba, which had been badly damaged by erosion before his administration took office, has been fully reconstructed. Otti said the road will be officially commissioned and opened to the public in the coming days.
In the education sector, Governor Otti disclosed a major rise in school enrollment across Abia State. He said student numbers in basic and secondary schools have increased from about 117,000 to over 300,000 as of December 2025. The governor described this growth as a sign of renewed confidence in public education under his administration.
