Five fire incidents hit Kano metropolis within 24 hours

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that at least five separate fire outbreaks occurred across Kano metropolis within a 24-hour period, between January 27 and 28, 2026. The incidents were reported in Nassarawa, Fagge, and Kano Municipal local government areas, but prompt response by firefighters prevented major losses.

The first fire broke out at a pharmacy in Badawa, Nassarawa LGA, around 4:17 a.m., while the second occurred in an open area used for MTN and Airtel antenna installations along Maiduguri Road at 1:20 p.m. Another fire erupted at Singar Market, involving a container truck loaded with cartons of noodles, and was quickly controlled by the Sabon Gari Fire Station personnel.

The fourth incident involved a steel processing plant along Independence Road, damaging machines, generators, solar panels, and other equipment. The fifth fire affected a residential building at Ja’en, slightly damaging two rooms and a kitchen. All incidents were successfully contained, highlighting the swift response of fire service teams.

The Fire Service urged residents to observe basic fire safety measures, including switching off unused electrical appliances, avoiding illegal connections, storing flammable materials safely, and installing fire extinguishers. ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi also called for prompt reporting of fire outbreaks to enable quick intervention and minimize damage.
