Nigerian military winning war against insurgents – Ndume

Former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, has said the Nigerian military is making clear progress in its fight against insurgency, following renewed cooperation with the United States. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Ndume noted that recent intelligence sharing and operational support have helped improve security efforts, especially in the North-East.

According to him, the Armed Forces have successfully extended operations into previously difficult territories such as the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains and parts of the Lake Chad region. Ndume explained that the onset of the dry season has also improved visibility, making military operations more effective against insurgent groups.

Despite the gains, the Borno South senator stressed that the war is not yet over. He said the military still faces familiar challenges, including the need for better training, modern equipment, adequate motivation and sufficient ammunition to sustain the momentum already achieved.

Ndume concluded that while the situation has improved compared to previous years, sustained support and capacity building remain critical. He warned that victory can only be assured when insurgent threats are completely eliminated and security is fully restored across affected regions.
