Popular American YouTuber and livestream star Darren Jason Watkins Jr., widely known as IShowSpeed, has been granted Ghanaian citizenship following the completion of his month-long tour across Africa. The announcement was made by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, who confirmed that the 21-year-old influencer has been issued a Ghanaian passport.
According to the minister, the decision followed official verification of IShowSpeed’s strong and “irrefutable ties” to Ghana. He explained that the move aligns with Ghana’s Beyond the Return initiative, which aims to reconnect people of African descent in the diaspora with their roots and encourage deeper cultural and economic engagement with the country.
Ablakwa noted that the YouTuber’s growing connection with Ghana and Africa was evident through his cultural interactions, public engagements, and online content. He praised IShowSpeed for promoting Ghana and the wider African continent positively, describing him as a worthy global ambassador who has helped reshape perceptions of Africa among international audiences.
IShowSpeed recently concluded his Africa Tour, which began on December 29, 2025, and covered 20 African countries. Through his livestreams, he showcased African culture, tourism, innovation, and daily life to over 50 million subscribers, helping to challenge stereotypes and highlight the continent’s diversity and potential.
