Tragic Accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Claims 12 Lives, Injures Four

A tragic accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday, August 13, leading to the death of 12 people and injuring four others. The incident happened at Malo, near Ogere, when a Mazda bus with the registration number DDA 733 XA crashed. According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, the accident happened at 3:14 p.m. due to wrongful overtaking.

The driver lost control of the bus, causing it to hit the road divider, tumble, and burst into flames. A total of 16 people were involved, including 12 men, three women, and one female child. Unfortunately, 12 people were burnt to death, while four men sustained serious injuries and were taken to Patmag Hospital in Ogere for treatment.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also urged motorists to always follow traffic rules, maintain a safe speed, and ensure the road is clear before overtaking to prevent such tragic incidents.
