Police arrest six for hacking telecoms firm

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six individuals for allegedly hacking into a major telecommunication company in Nigeria. The suspects are accused of unlawfully accessing the company’s core systems, according to a statement issued by the Force Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday.

The suspects reportedly diverted airtime and mobile data valued at N7.7 billion during the alleged cybercrime. Police investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the breach and recover the misappropriated funds.

The Force spokesperson emphasized that the arrests are part of a broader effort by Nigerian law enforcement to tackle cybercrime and protect critical infrastructure from illegal access. Authorities have warned that anyone involved in similar offenses would face strict legal action.

The police also urged telecom companies and other private firms to strengthen their cybersecurity measures, collaborate with security agencies, and report suspicious activities promptly to prevent large-scale cyber theft.
