The Benue State Police Command has confirmed that its officers successfully stopped an attempted attack by suspected bandits in Otukpo Local Government Area. The incident occurred on January 27 at about 2:26 p.m., following timely intelligence and swift response by security operatives in the area.
According to security sources, the Commanding Officer of the 80 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Odugbo, received an alert from military authorities that armed bandits had been driven out of Umogidi community and were heading toward Odugbo. Acting quickly, the police deployed PMF personnel who were already on high alert to intercept the attackers.
On encountering the police team, the bandits reportedly opened fire, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire. The security operatives, however, overpowered the attackers, forcing them to retreat into nearby bushes. No casualties were recorded among the police officers or residents of the affected communities.
Following the operation, the police assured residents of Otukpo and surrounding areas that normalcy has returned. The command also stated that patrols have been intensified to prevent any further security threats and to reassure the public of continued protection.
